  • Differentiation: Differentiation is the phase where someone can sense the differences between what they see in the mirror and what they encounter in the surrounding environment.
  • Situation: The situation is the stage where people start to explore their abilities, weaknesses, and other things about themselves.
  • Identification: Identification is a level where an individual starts to recognize who they are from self-realization.
  • Permanence: At the permanence level, someone is already at ease and sure of what they are.
  • Self-Consciousness: It is the highest level of self-awareness where people already understand themselves completely.

Self-awareness is a state where someone has a high understanding of themselves. Self-awareness is essential for someone because it will help them to comprehend and learn themselves. People with stable self-awareness also tend to have proper skills in socializing and communicating. Someone with self-awareness will have the ability to recognize their strengths, which will make them able to choose the suitable path of their life. It stabilizes them from getting wavering by other people's words. This fact proves that self-awareness helps someone develop their self-esteem or self-confidence. Clara Cheng from Carlow University explains in her paper that self-awareness can trigger someone's self-confidence. Hence, someone needs to have a solid self-awareness. It is also encouraged for parents and teachers to plant self-awareness seeds for their children and students.

How to Help Young Children Develop Their Self-Awareness?

Many experts agree that solid self-awareness can help children develop various personal skills and abilities. It will help them to understand themselves and build self-confidence. This personality will prepare them to live life throughout their education until their professional journey. However, training children to grow their self-awareness might not be something simple. Here are some strategies that parents and teachers can do to help their children and students to develop stable self-awareness:

  • Talk to the kids about their emotions, and do not judge them.
  • Engage in active communication with them regularly. You can talk about anything, from their schools, hobbies, holiday planning, their favorite shows, and more.
  • Encourage your children in every activity they do, and do not forget to praise them.
