Get to Know What is Cell Organelle

Before you dive into teaching your class, first you must know how to explain what cell organelle is to your students. National Human Genome Research Institute or known as NIH stated the definition of a cell organelle as a subcellular structure that has some specific functions to perform in the cell, just like an organ in the body. Among so many cell organelles, there are three most important ones. First is nuclei which compile the genetic information. Second is mitochondria which produce chemical energy, and third is ribosomes which collect and assemble proteins. All these kinds of cell organelle can be understood easily by your students through the Cell Organelle Riddles Worksheets.

What is the Function of Cell Organelle?

"Ma'am/Sir, what is the function of cell organelle?" If one of your students asked this question in your class, be happy because it is every teacher's dream right, to have a class with active and participative students. So, how to answer that said question? BBC explained the function of cell organelle super well, completed with a table, you can check them below!

Cell Structure

Description

Function

Cell Type

Cell Wall

A freely permeable layer surrounds the cell membrane.

To support and strengthen cells.

Plant, fungal or bacterial

Cell Membrane

A Selectively permeable double layer and protein molecules.

To control whatever substance enters and leaves the cells.

All cell types.

Cytoplasm

A fluid enclosed by the cell membrane, containing organelles and ribosomes.

The place of many chemical reactions.

All cell types.

Mitochondria

A rod-shaped structure found in the cytoplasm.

The part where aerobic respiration occurs and the place of most ATP cells are produced.

Animal, plant, and fungal.

Chloroplast Structured in the cytoplasm with the shape of a disc. The location where photosynthesis happened and where sugar is produced. Plant.
Vacuole A chamber in the cell contains salts and sugars. To store water and to maintain the turgor within the cells. Plant.
Ribosomes  A small complex in the cytoplasm. A place where the amino acids are connected to produce proteins. All cell types.
Plasmids A little circular DNA molecule. Accommodate genes that help the cell to function. Bacterial.
Nucleus A room to store DNA as chromosomes. To control the cell activity. Animal, plant, or fungal.

The Differences Between Animal Cells and Plant Cells

Even though both plants and animals are living things on earth, there are differences in how their cells are built and worked. Through her paper, Lakna Panawala explains the cell differences in both. She said that the main difference between these two cells is that while the plant cells are composed of cell walls and chloroplasts, the animal cells have a cell wall and chloroplast shortage.

Both animal cells and plant cells are eukaryotic types of cells. That is why both cells are composed of membrane-bound organelles like the nucleus, mitochondria, and endoplasmic reticulum. Plant cells display a rectangular shape due to the existence of a cell wall. Meanwhile, animal cells have a round and irregular shape because of the lack of cell walls.

What is Riddle Worksheet?

To understand what a riddle worksheet is, we can start by digging in on the riddle definition. So, what is the riddle? In short, a riddle is a puzzle that means to be solved and answered. By that definition, we can conclude that a riddle worksheet is a worksheet with some puzzles related to the topic, and it needs to be solved or answered by the students.

On this page, you can find the example of the Cell Organelle Riddle Worksheet. Besides the riddle worksheet, you can also find other activity worksheets like word search, word bank, fill in the blank, graph, and even diagrams.

Is Riddle Worksheet Effective?

With so many kinds of worksheets and learning methods, does use the Cell Organelle Riddle Worksheet effective? Based on the research done by Nehru Pongsapan, it is academically approved that using riddles as learning tools is effective and proven to increase the student's understanding in studying. In the end, we could conclude that using a riddle is an efficient way to teach students about cell organelles.

Difficulties in Learning About Cells

Learning about cells is important, yet it can be considered a complicated topic for some students and even the teacher. It is not easy to deliver the topic to the class. Fernandez and Jimenez-Tezada stated in their paper, that poor students' understanding related to the topic is influenced by the teaching method used in the classroom. This case was the most found condition in many schools. The complexity of the topic also contributed to this lack of understanding. To overcome this problem, it is recommended that teacher to varies their teaching methodology or their learning medium and tools.
