This part of speech shows the meaning of the words and their grammatical role in a sentence. One word can have different functions when we apply it to other circumstances.

In this part, we will discuss more about nouns. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, a noun means a person, place, thing, event, substance, or quality. J. T. Bushnell, a senior lecturer from Oregon State University, added noun refers to a word that can be plural or obsessive. Below are some examples of sentences with bold noun words:

  • Demian's older sister works as a doctor.
  • I ate mac and cheese for dinner last night.
  • French is my favorite language to learn.

  • Proper NounsProper nouns refer to certain individuals, locations, or things. Usually, we will write the first letter of proper nouns with capital to distinguish it from other words. Examples: America, New York, James, Sabrina, Amazon, Disneyland.

  • Non-Countable Nouns: Non-countable nouns are the opposite of countable ones. We can't count those things individually. Water, air, information, love, and oxygen are non-countable nouns.

How to Differentiate Singular and Plural Nouns?

As we learned in the previous paragraph, there are two types of countable nouns, singular and particular. In this section, we will discuss more about those two. A singular noun refers to one (single) noun. Usually, we will put the articles (a, an, or the) before the noun to indicate the singularity.

  • A book.
  • A glass of water.
  • The story.
