Be prepared for something unexpected with these Emergency Worksheets Kindergarten!

What is an Emergency Situation?

An emergency is a critical, abrupt, and usually alarming situation for human health, life, property, or the environment. These dangerous situations require immediate rescue to prevent the condition from worsening. However, in some circumstances, the mitigation procedure is not easy to launch, and the authorities may only provide palliative care for the consequences.

While some emergencies are self-evident (natural catastrophes), many minor incidents need the observer (or affected person) to determine whether it is an emergency. A dangerous situation could threaten someone's life, health, or the environment. If a critical condition occurs, our first concern should be life safety. After that, we should start to stabilize the situation.

What are The Types of Emergency?

The mitigation procedure for emergencies varies based on the level of the damage and the emergency type. Below are the emergency types that we all should be aware of:

  1. Natural: Natural catastrophes are catastrophic events caused by natural phenomena on Earth. These range from floods and hurricanes to tsunamis and earthquakes. The Earth has experienced many natural disasters in its 4.54 billion-year history. Some of these disasters have resulted in multiple mass extinctions and dramatic effects on various surviving species.

  2. Technological: A technological catastrophe is an event affected by a failure of a technical structure or a human mistake in the control or operation of technology. Many people consider a technical disaster a disaster created by humans because it has an 'identifiable cause'. Because of this property, the effects on society can often be more detrimental.

  3. Human-Caused: Man-made disasters, unlike natural disasters caused by natural disasters, have an element of error involving human intent, negligence, or system failures by a human. Such dangerous situations include crime, arson, riots, terrorism, war, biological and chemical threats, and cyber-attacks.

What is The Preparation to Face an Emergency Situation?

An emergency could happen anytime, and it does not wait until we are ready (because, to be honest, we would never be). The range of the emergency is so broad that our fingers are not enough to count them. Tornadoes, house fires, floods, or terrorist attacks are possible.

No one wants to think about accidents and disasters. But being prepared for emergencies can protect your family. The key to emergency preparedness is to do as much as preparation before the emergency strikes.

The most crucial thing to do in an emergency is to remain calm. If something occurs, get as much news as possible about the event. Many of us depend on electrical devices for the report. However, it is essential to have a radio with battery power nearby in an emergency.

There are three steps of preparation that you should do when you face an emergency.

  • Make a plan for yourself and others around you.
  • Assemble a set of emergency kits.
  • Pay attention to the information of what to do or to go during the catastrophes.

How to Teach Emergency to Children?

Talking to children about possible emergency schemes might not be one of the most pleasant things. Parents do not want to scare them or create new fears. Dr Sanam Hafeez is a New York City-based neuropsychologist who has an approach to teaching emergencies that does not scare children.

  • Tell your children that an emergency is an unusual situation that can hurt someone or damage a house, car, and more.
  • Explain to your children that sometimes nature gives too much – rain, wind, snow.
  • Discuss the impact of emergencies involving children, such as power, water, or telephone failure.
  • Explain the flooded streets and uprooted trees.
  • Explain that people in emergencies can better manage themselves if they know what to do.

Based on that approach, there are some steps for teaching children about emergencies. Use these steps as safety lessons.

  • First, the parents should tell their kids the differences between a problem and an emergency. A problem is something that needs help but not emergency services. An emergency is a situation that requires immediate assistance from the police or fire department or urgent medical attention from paramedics or rescue personnel.

  • If your child has a problem, you have to decide whether to call you, call your neighbor, or let the problem go until you get home. So, communication during emergencies is the important thing to do!

  • Don't forget to help children identify emergency contacts.

  • You can download the Emergency Worksheets for Kindergarten to help them know more about what they should do.

What Should Be Packed into The Emergency Kits for Children?

In an emergency, people may not have access to food, water, or electricity for days or weeks. If you want to teach emergency things to children, don't forget to teach them about these emergency kits. So, these are some tips for creating an emergency kit for children or kindergarten students.

  • Try to manage a plan of food and fresh water for three days. Each person needs one gallon of water each day.

  • Create a spacious room, and save water stocks for around two weeks. However, you need more than just food and water to survive.

  • These items should be part of an emergency kit; radio, batteries, flashlight, medicine, first-aid kit, money, sleeping bag, or blanket. Store the supplies in an easily portable container (backpack, a plastic container, or a suitcase with wheels).

An emergency is a critical, abrupt, and usually alarming situation for human health, life, property, or the environment. These dangerous situations require immediate rescue to prevent the condition from worsening (mitigation).
