The ceremony of 100 days at school provides a chance for the teachers and students to look back and reflect. Many things happened in the past few days that require an evaluation. It is also a celebration of everything over the last one hundred days.

What is 100 Days School?

The 100 days of school might not be an official celebration, but this commemoration will excite the students. The school celebrates the 100 days since the students entered school. The festivity situation will make the students feel appreciated and could boost their spirits to go to school and study diligently. The teachers and the staff work together to decorate the school with many 100 related pieces of stuff. Some schools require students, teachers and staff to dress up according to a particular theme. Some teachers (usually math teachers) also incorporate the number 100 into the learning. This learning strategy will make the students celebrates not only a mere number but also; a meaningful message behind those three numbers.

Why 100 Days School Celebration Necessary?

The 100 days school celebration has been in high demand for schools, especially these past decades. Many students (and teachers) anticipate this day since there will be a celebration, and who does not like a festival? However, this commemoration might burden the parents because they have to find things like costumes for the dress-up or the one-hundred stuff the kids should take to school. Yes, you did not read it wrong. Some schools ask the students to bring 100 things, such as food, stationery, toys, and more. The students will share and exchange this stuff with their friends at school.

Some people might think, what is the use of celebrating the 100 days of school? What does this celebration bring to the children? Isn't it become a burden for the parents who should prepare various things? According to Erica Green from Vermont Mom, here are some reasons why celebrating 100 days of school is necessary:

  • Giving the students appreciation: For young students, entering a school for the first time is a serious and big deal. It is their first moment of having a responsibility alone, without their parents around them. Reaching one hundred days at school is a milestone which deserves celebration!
  • Chance to practice counting: On this celebration day, the mathematics teacher could use the occasion to teach students to count up to 100. Besides learning how to calculate, the teacher could engage this day to learn numbers.
  • Merging lessons: The teachers should get creative and mix the term "one hundred" into all the lectures. Writing one hundred vocabularies, walking one hundred steps, and reading one hundred words are some of the activities the teachers can do.
  • Fun activities: The 100 days at school celebration is a chance for the students to have an exciting day. They will still be able to learn while having a pleasant day.

When is the Appropriate Time to Celebrate the 100 Days of School?

There is no exact and official date to celebrate the 100 days at school. The 100th day counted since the first day of the new semester. Since every school started the school at various times, they might have a different date to celebrate this commemoration. Most schools started their academic year in August or September; the 100th day would fall around January or February. The students will anticipate this event so much as it happened after the winter holiday, and spring is waiting around the corner.

What is the History of 100 Days of School?

The first celebration of 100 days of school started in Livermore, California 1979. Lynn Taylor is the founder behind this ceremony. At first, she used the 100 days at school as the learning strategy to teach the students how to count up to one hundred. In 1981, with the help of two other teachers, David Cooper and Mary Hurdlow, they turned the idea into a book titled Mathematics Their Way. After the publication, many teachers across the country adopted the 100 days celebration and incorporated the strategy in their schools and classrooms.
