Human has depended on light energy since a long time ago. Besides helping humans to see, lights also have various functions. Some examples of natural light sources are the sun, stars, moonlight, lightning, natural fires and bioluminescent creatures. Many experts stated that heat is a thermal energy transfer because of the contrast temperature. From the law of thermodynamics, we know that heat moves from an object with a higher to a lower temperature. Heat has many benefits for humans, such as cooking, warming the body, drying, ironing clothes, providing power and more. There are three types of heat energy transfer, conduction, convection and radiation. Conduction is the energy transfer between two touching objects. Convection is heat delivery because of the fluids' motion. Lastly, radiation is the energy transfer without any movement of matter.
How are Light and Heat Energy Relate to Each Other?
We cannot separate light and heat energy as they are related. We can transform light into heat energy and vice versa. One of the most familiar examples of this energy shift is when the light from the sun hits our skin, and we can feel the warmth. Another case is when we touch the surface of an outdoor wall on a bright day, and we can feel its heat. It can happen because the long wavelength or infrared of the sun oscillates with the material of the wall and cause a motion. This phenomenon proves that energy transfer occurs at the molecular rather than electronic level.
