It is the essence of our community because language is the fuel of communication which is the start of making innovation and creation. Many experts stated their agreement of language as a system that permits people to think. This explanation is on par with the definition of language as the beginning of innovation and creation. Hence, it is unsurprising that many parents encourage their children to exercise their linguistic skills as early as possible.

In the language field, there are four basic skills people should master. Those four are speaking, reading, listening, speaking, and writing. In this article, we will discuss writing skills. V Satya Sri Durga, an English teacher from Bhasyam High School, stated that writing is a complex cognitive skill. It is because someone should master many elements of writing, such as symbols, syllables, spelling, punctuation, logical reasoning, word form, function, and more. Learning and teaching writing became one of the most challenging activities for linguistic education. However, the results of this learning will help the students to achieve skills they will use for their whole life.

How Many Types of Writing Styles Are There?

When we write, we should know the target readers of our writing. It is essential to understand this objective because it will help us arrange our passage. Writers also should know well the content write because it will help them decide the type of text they want to write. In conclusion, an author should prepare themselves before diving into the writing act. Based on Rhode Island University, there are four types of writing styles depending on the purpose that students should master:

  • Persuasive: It is the type of text to persuade the readers to do something or agree with the writer's opinion.
  • Descriptive: Descriptive passage's purpose is to give information or knowledge to the readers in a neutral tone. It helps the audience to visualize a particular event with the help of written words.
  • Narrative: Narrative text aims to share information in the concept of a story. It has some elements, such as characters, plots, conflicts, settings of place and time, and moral values.
  • Expository: Expository text helps a broad audience understand information with complete evidence and statistics. The writer of the expository only uses facts for their writing. 

How to Introduce Writing for Young Students?

The early step for young kids in developing writings skill is to strengthen their penmanship or handwriting skills. It is the role of parents to help the children master this ability. Handwriting practice might take a long time because the kids should use a combination of various skills and knowledge, such as fine motoric skills, linguistics, memory capacity, and concentration.

The practice might start with the children scribbling down various messy doodles. The parents should be patient while guiding them to progress with the writing practice. The parents should provide many tools and instruments to help the children practice writing. Chalk, crayons, and pencils are suitable writing tools for toddlers and preschoolers. The more pages someone reads, the better their writing will get. It is because they have seen many examples of text, and it will help them know what type of words or sentences they should put on their own.
