Know your holy place through these Inside a Catholic Church Worksheets!

Summary: The Catholics hold onto the belief that Jesus Christ is the Church's founder. Church has five purposes, worship, teach, fellowship, evangelize and serve. The teachings and beliefs of the Catholic Church are based on Sacred Scripture (the Bible) and Sacred Tradition, which includes teaching and practices passed down through the centuries. Church is the place for the community to do something good and give it back to the community while worshiping and praying to God.

What is Catholic Church?

The Catholics hold onto the belief that Jesus Christ is the Church's founder. They believe it is part of the Father's plan for world salvation. The word "Catholic" comes from the Greek word "katholikos," which means "universal." Declaration and inauguration of Jesus Christ to the kingdom of God ushered to the community of followers. His death, rejuvenation, and sending of the Holy Spirit established the Church, with which he promised to remain until the end. The Catholic Church is the largest Church and one of the oldest religious institutions in the world. It outlines its origins back to the teachings of Jesus Christ and the Twelve Apostles, as described in the New Testament. The Pope, the Bishop of Rome and the successor of Saint Peter is considered the spiritual leader and head of the Catholic Church. The Pope is believed to have special authority and is considered infallible in matters of faith and morals when speaking ex-cathedra (from the chair) on issues of doctrine or morals.

How Many Concepts of Church Are There?

The Catholics have Creeds to express and make clear the most important matters in their beliefs, including the nature of God. The community often recites them during acts of worship, usually standing. According to the British Broadcasting Corporation, there are three Creeds (Nicene Creed, Apostles' Creed, and Athanasian Creed). The one that the Catholics usually recite weekly is the Nicene Creed. There is an essential line in this Creed, "I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church."

The terms "one, holy, catholic, and apostolic" are known as the four concepts or marks of the Church.

One: One means that the Church is a single and united place to worship Jesus Christ.

Holy: The Church is a holy place because it helps to make the faithful holy.

Catholic: As we know from the previous paragraph, Catholic means universal, and it is the role of the Church: to spread the Word of God all over the world.

Apostolic: Apostolic refers to the roots and beliefs of the Church, the apostles at Pentecost.

What are the Purposes of the Church?

According to the First Baptist Church of St. Simons Island, Church has five purposes, worship, teach, fellowship, evangelize and serve. The teachings and beliefs of the Catholic Church are based on Sacred Scripture (the Bible) and Sacred Tradition, which includes teaching and practices passed down through the centuries. The Church has a hierarchical structure, with the Pope at the top, followed by cardinals, bishops, priests, and deacons. The sacraments, such as Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist (also known as Communion or the Lord's Supper), Reconciliation (Confession), Marriage, Holy Orders, and Anointing of the Sick, are prominent in Catholic worship and spiritual life.

The Catholic Church has various beliefs and practices that enclose moral education, social justice matters, spirituality, and religious rituals. It emphasizes the importance of community, worship, and participation in the sacraments. The Catholic Church also has a strong tradition of charitable work, education, healthcare, and social services. In conclusion, Church is the place for the community to do something good and give it back to the community while worshiping and praying to God.
